As long as you keep on top of your RAID monitoring, this should give you plenty of speed, and security. Join Date Jul Beans 1. The drives all show up fine in the onboard utility, and the array is in an optimal state. Obviously some less than ideal things going on here, no hot spare, backing up to a consumer drive, etc. Checkout the Wiki Users are encouraged to contribute to and grow our Wiki. Also, isn’t RAID 10 only tolerant of two drive losses provided you don’t lose two drives on the same mirror.

PEDual Xeon Irwindale 3. I would ideally go with two hot spares raiv either configuration. Of course, you need to go with Enterprise drives.

Mainly, it is up to your personal preference. The drives all show up fine in the onboard utility, and the array is in an optimal state. Boiled down, it essentially provides Word and Excel documents to 20 people with maybe emails total per day. There are nightly onsite backups, weekly offsite and soon to be nightly offsite.
I’ve tried swapping the card with a known good card, and there was no change.
July 25th, 1. So that’ll be roughly or so after all is said and done. Raid 10 might make Kerio perform better though. I’m planning on leaving this employer in the very near term to move about 80 miles away.
Looking for some advice on to how best improve fault tolerance and possibly disk performance in this oldish Dell PowerEdge Regarding drives dying together, I definitely wouldn’t want to ignore this for days, but if I am in zata position for some reason that I simply can’t get on site the day of or the following, the more redundancy the better.
I don’t see szta the controller as an option. The backups I’m least concerned about as we’re preparing to add nightly offiste backup with a 3rd party provider.
I’m starting to lean towards RAID 5 for reduced cost and easier transition.
Join Date Jul Beans 1. I can’t risk a second drive failure if I can’t get on site for a few days.
A lot of people skip that option, because they don’t like the idea of paying for a disk that doesn’t add to their total usable space. Looks like I’ve got some after hours OT coming next week. Log in or sign up in seconds. I’m leaning towards a new RAID 5 array for ease of transition since performance isn’t a huge issue, but I wanted to get the opinion of those more experienced than I.

Thinking about it more critically, it would rqid adding more complexity than it’s worth. My goal is to provide a few days of safety should a drive die and I’m unable to get on site within 24 hours. I’ll be rad my services back to them and want to shore up reliability as much as possible.
Submit a new text post. But that is still 2 drives, vs the 1 drive tolerance of RAID 5. CERC controllers are nice, but pretty out of date.

More details on the rules may be found in the wiki. And you are correct, the 2 drive fault tolerance is only true if the 2 drives are in opposite mirrors. Obviously some less than ideal things going on here, no hot spare, backing up to a consumer drive, etc.
